My New Nook

So, Barnes and Noble is doing this Nook promotion:

It's a pretty sweet deal. I considered getting it... but then, I found out nook got no eChinese Books - or at least, not yet! (aww, I like to read in both Chinese/English!)

So, I went ahead and got this one - Ta-da~ meet my new "Nook":

Yep, the Arcadia Library actually has a pretty good "International Language" section filled with Asian Language books~ : )

The Nook prides itself for their large collection of eBooks that you can download either for free/lower prices than the same titles' "real book" copies.

But, guess what? MY "Nook" gets me anything I wanna read from THEIR collection FOR FREEEEE~ Some even comes in COLORS with a lot of pictures too!! : P

Another Pet!?

I really like this betta fish tank. But, 1.) I m not sure if it's spacious enough for a betta to live happily ever after in there. 2.) I already have a zoo of 1 sugar glider, 2 rats, 2 dogs, 2 turtles, many herb, vegetable, and succulent plants.

On the Topic of Food: Dumpster Diving!

Did you know 1 in every 10 people are at risk of hunger everyday in the county of Los Angeles? And, each year people of Los Angeles toss away 2.9 billion pounds of food waste.

Where do all those food waste come from? Is there something we can do as individuals to help feed the hungry mouths or at least start reducing this shocking amount of food waste?
Filmmaker Jeremy Seifert's DIVE! the File documented his effort in fighting the above statistic. He began his battle with dumpster diving, retrieving good food from grocery stores' dumpsters to save edible food that would otherwise end up in the landfill. Later on in his mission, Serifert made attempts to speak with several supermarkets' managers/CEOs encouraging them to reconsider throwing food products away before they became truly inedible, sitting in the dumpster, being left to rot, and getting buried in the landfill...

You Are What You Eat!

Ever give much thought to the food inside of your fridge? Assuming we are being good, and we are not wasting food. All those food in our fridge should be consumed, then eventually became part of our bodies, part of us. Taking a honest good look into our fridge's content, not only we could gain a little glimpse of our personal dietary habits. We could also get to have a feel of how conscious we have been with our dietary choices. Do we like what we see in our fridge? Is it time to pat ourselves on the shoulders to recognize our self-caring skills? Or, is this 2010 the year we establish healthier grocery shopping routines to nurture ourselves with better food selections?

One thing I know for sure: my fridge is packed with leftovers!!! I gotta start buying in smaller quantity and order less when I eat out!! Looking at all these eco-unfriendly take out containers; makes me feel a little bit bad about myself... : (

Picture Show: You Are What You Eat, by Mark Menjiva, is an intriguing photograph collections highlighting the content inside of American's fridges across the country.
